HC Deb 02 May 1901 vol 93 c443
MR. SAMUEL YOUNG (Cavan, E.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that the land case of Bridget Fitzpatrick, of Stradone, county Cavan, entered for the Cavan Sub-Commission in January, 1899, was not heard until February, 1901; that since the latter date the Commissioners have not visited the holding; and that, after visiting, there may be further delay before judgment is given; whether he can state approximately the number of years which will elapse in the event of the fair rents being appealed against; and, seeing that these delays are a source of discontent and that during the years of delay the old rent has still to be paid, whether steps can be taken to expedite decisions in these cases.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. WYNDHAM, Dover)

The Assistant Commissioners hope to inspect the holding next week, in which case judgment may be given before the end of the month. The question in the second paragraph is a hypothetical one, to which I am unable to reply. All possible expedition is used.
