HC Deb 14 March 1901 vol 90 c1548
MR. BARTLEY (Islington, N)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether, before accepting the application of anyone to serve in the Imperial Yeomanry or other mounted force enrolled to proceed to South Africa, each applicant is tested in riding and shooting; and whether all are refused who cannot show their efficiency in these requirements.

LORD STANLEY

Yes, Sir.

MR. BARTLEY

Where are the men who come up to the offices in Victoria Street tried in these matters?

LORD STANLEY

I cannot say.
