HC Deb 25 June 1901 vol 95 cc1403-4
CAPTAIN NORTON

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will consider the advisability of raising the salaries of the staff generally throughout Scotland Yard, seeing that some departments have already been dealt with.

*THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. RITCHIE, Croydon)

It is the practice for the salaries of various sections of the staff at Scotland Yard to be considered as occasion arises in each case. I think this is the proper course, as it may well be that there may be a claim for consideration in the case of one or two-departments when a general increase for all would be out of the question.
