HC Deb 11 June 1901 vol 97 cc93-4
SIR JOHN LENG (Dundee)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether it is in contemplation to adopt wireless telegraphy for communication between lighthouses and lightships and the coastguard and lifeboat stations on the shores of the United Kingdom.

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

The question of the establishment of electrical communication, including wireless telegraphy, between lighthouses, lightships, and the shores of the United Kingdom is under the consideration of a Departmental Committee, appointed in 1899, but I cannot say at present that wireless telegraphy will be selected as the best method of communication in any particular case.
