§ MR. MOONEYOn behalf of the hon. Member for the St. Patrick Division of Dublin, I beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can state how the £171,000 taken from Ireland as quit rents, the property of the Crown in Ireland, has been invested in England; and whether it is the intention of the Government to restore this money for investment in Ireland.
§ SIR M. HICKS BEACHThis sum has not been taken from Ireland. The payers of quit rents have redeemed them, and, as I have already stated, it is impossible to ear-mark the particular investments to which the redemption money has been devoted by the Commissioners.
