HC Deb 07 June 1901 vol 94 c1321
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether he can explain the mutiny at Shorncliffe and the causes which led to it.

MR. BRODRICK

There was no mutiny, only a quarrel between two detachments. The men obeyed their officers at once—the disturbance was speedily quelled. An inquiry has been held, but no report has yet reached the War Office.

MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN

Were not shots fired and bayonets fixed?

MR. BRODRICK

I believe a few shots were fired, but the report has not reached us.

MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN

I suppose a few friendly shots were exchanged!
