HC Deb 18 July 1901 vol 97 cc830-1
CAPTAIN NORTON

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been directed to a decision with reference to lodging and other allowances being taken into consideration in calculating police pensions recently given by the Recorder at Sheffield Quarter Sessions, and if he can say whether the weekly lodging allowance now enjoyed by a large proportion of the Metropolitan Police constables will be pensionable.

* MR. RITCHIE

I have received a report of the proceedings before the Recorder of Sheffield, from which I learn that he has consented to state a case for the consideration of a higher court. The lodging allowance to certain members of the Metropolitan Police Force was granted on the distinct understanding that it would not form part of their annual pay, and consequently would not be pensionable.
