§ MR. WEIRI beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will state the number of applications made to the Treasury for advances under Section 4 of the Light Railways Act, 1896, and the total amount applied for under that section of the Act.
§ MR. GERALD BALFOURFive applications have been made to the Treasury for advances under the section referred to. Two of these applications were for "the largest amount possible," no particular sum being specified, while the sum asked for in the remaining applications amounted to £26.000.
