§ CAPTAIN JESSEL (St. Pancras, S.)I beg to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty if he will explain why the privilege of serving in the Royal Naval Reserve is denied to medical practitioners, and whether, in view of the duties which the surgeons of the Royal Navy would have to undertake in time of war, he will consider the desirability of forming a medical branch of the Royal Naval Reserve.
§ THE SECRETARY TO THE ADMIRALTY (Mr. ARNOLD-FORSTER, Belfast, W.)This question has been under the consideration of the Admiralty on several occasions, but it has not been thought desirable to form a medical branch of the Royal Naval Reserve. Emergencies will be met by the entry of surgeons for temporary service, for which special regulations have been drawn up and circulated through all the universities and medical schools.
