HC Deb 30 April 1901 vol 93 c255
MR. ORMSBY-GORE (Lincolnshire, Gainsborough)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the fact that three months arrears of pay are still due to troopers of the Canadian Mounted Rifles who have returned to Canada from South Africa, he can state when these arrears will be made good.

LORD STANLEY

In all cases of men coming home with unadjusted balances of pay due to them, sixty-one days pay, or £5, whichever is the greater, is issued to them, and where the claims exceed these amounts, and where there is any corroborative evidence available, four-fifths of the amount claimed are issued. It is very difficult while the war is still proceeding to clear up the numerous accounts, but the general officer commanding the lines of communications has been instructed to make every endeavour to facilitate the adjustment of accounts in South Africa. I have no knowledge of the cases referred to in the question.
