HC Deb 30 April 1901 vol 93 cc272-3
MR. J. P. FARRELL

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that, in consequence of the Order of the Local Government Board for Ireland in changing the area of charge for Ardagh burial ground from a dispensary district into a union charge and excluding the urban district of Longford, the provisions of an Order confirmed by Parliament to provide a new burial ground at Ardagh have not been carried into effect; and whether, in view of the effect of this exemption of urban districts on the relations between the bodies in Ireland, he will direct the Local Government Board to re-issue the Order including the urban district and fixing the area to be the Longford dispensary district.

MR. WYNDHAM

I understand that the delay in providing the new burial ground at Ardagh is chiefly due to the alteration in the area of charge, to which the district council takes exception. But, as I explained last Friday, that alteration is not consequent on any action of the Local Government Board, but on the terms of the Local Government Act of 1898. I am therefore unable to comply with the request in the second paragraph of the question.

MR. J. P. FARRELL

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware he has promised to look into the matter in connection with the area of charge under the new Provisional Order?

MR. WYNDHAM

I am quite aware of what I have said on the subject.
