§ SIR E. ASHMEAD-BARTLETTI beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the Turkish Government have proposed an increase of import duties for the Ottoman Empire; and whether Her Majesty's Government have taken any diplomatic action with regard to this increase.
§ MR. BRODRICKI explained a few days ago that Her Majesty's Ambassador at Constantinople is engaged in negotiations, in concert with his colleagues, in reference to this question. I am not at present in a position to make a statement.
