HC Deb 03 May 1900 vol 82 cc576-7
* SIR HENRY HOWORTH (Salford, S.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether his attention has been called to the fact that General Lord Methuen has erected a monument at Boshof in honour of Colonel Villebois, who was fighting on the side of the Boers as a mercenary soldier; and whether he will consider the advisability of recommending that the erection of such monuments should in any case be postponed until after the war is concluded.

* THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR WAR (Mr. WYNDHAM, Dover)

The Secretary of State for War has not received any report on this subject. But, Sir, I can think of no reason why one brave man should not put up a monument to another.
