HC Deb 03 May 1900 vol 82 c577
MR. NEWDIGATE (Warwickshire, Nuneaton)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he can give the name of the Englishman married to a Dutch wife, and lately living in the Karee district of the Orange Free State, who was shot by the Boers in March last in the presence of his family; and whether he has any information to the effect that other cases of shooting persons of British extraction by the Boers have recently occurred in the Orange Free State.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (Mr. J. CHAMBERLAIN, Birmingham, W.)

In reply to the first paragraph, I have to say that I have no information as to the case referred to, but I will make inquiry. Previous reported instances of the shooting of persons of British extraction in cold blood in the Orange Free State have been shown to be untrue.
