HC Deb 01 May 1900 vol 82 c426
MR. WEIR

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate, having regard to the fact that the lighthouse at Tiumpan Head (Lewis) is practically finished, and that it is in telephonic communication with Stornoway, will the Secretary for Scotland now consider the expediency of stationing a look-out man at the lighthouse, so that the Fishery Officer may be readily warned of the presence of illegal trawlers in Broad Bay.

* THE LORD ADVOCATE (MR. A. GRAHAM MURRAY, Buteshire)

The Secretary for Scotland has no jurisdiction over the internal arrangements of lighthouses, but he does not consider that there would be any material advantage derived from the special arrangement suggested by the hon. Member.

MR. WEIR

Did not the Secretary for Scotland a few years ago distinctly promise that this arrangement should be carried out?

* MR. A. GRAHAM MURRAY

I am not aware of it.
