I beg to ask the Vice-President of the Committee of *See page 323 of this volume. Council on Education if he can inform the House how many schools have come within the exceptions described in Section 3 of the Endowed Schools Act (1869) Amendment Act, 1873; for how many of them schemes have been framed, submitted, and approved, under that section and Section 75 of the Elementary Education Act, 1870; and if Her Majesty's Inspectors, under Sub-section 3 of Section 3, can inspect such schools without the assent, previously obtained, of the trustees or governors.

The reply to the first paragraph is, the number known to the Education Department is eighty-nine; in answer to the second it is forty-three; and in the third, yes.
