§ MR. PICKERSGILLI beg to ask the Vice-President of the Committee of Council on Education, whether the Education Department has declined to allow the Tottenham School Board to appoint a girl as a pupil teacher on the ground that she has not been vaccinated, although in other respects she satisfies all requirements; and, if so, will he state upon what statutory authority the Education Department professes to base its action.
§ SIR J. GORSTI have no information as to the particular case of the pupil teacher referred to in the question, but such a refusal would be in accordance with the practice of the department. The Committee of Council have power under Section 97 of the Education Act, 1870, to prescribe the conditions of the grant to Public Elementary Schools.
