I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether officers commanding Volunteer battalions can apply to the War Office for remuneration for the outlay in the construction of rifle ranges during the last three years and for the future, as it is understood that a large sum of money was voted for Volunteer rifle ranges in the Army Estimates of last and again this year.

No. There is no intention of making a grant retrospectively except where money may have been borrowed for purchase of land, when assistance by means of loan can be given under the Military Lands Act.
