SIR THOMAS ESMONDSI beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he will state the amount due by the Treasury to the Irish Local Taxation Fund in respect of the grant-in-aid for Irish asylums, and how this figure was arrived at; and if he will also state how the money refunded will be allocated; and whether a proportionate amount, and, if so, how much to each, will be paid to the county councils of the various counties towards the upkeep of their respective asylums.
§ MR. G. W. BALFOURThe amount due to the Local Taxation (Ireland) Account in respect of the grant-in-aid for pauper lunatics, and the manner in which the amount was arrived at will be found described in the Supplementary Estimate. The money, when voted, will be paid into the Local Taxation Account and will be available for the purposes mentioned in Section 58 of the Local Government Act of 1898.
