HC Deb 27 February 1900 vol 79 cc1206-7
MAJOR RASCH () Essex, S. E.

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether the 4th Middlesex were sent to the front on Monday last in black helmets. and whether the War Office propose to provide them with khaki, or will they accept khaki helmets from private sources: and whether any troops have hitherto been sent out with black headgear.

MR. WYNDHAM

The battalion embarked with black helmets, which were provided with khaki covers. Other battalions have been treated, in the same way. This is duo to the inability of the trade to keep pace with the large demands for khaki helmets.
