HC Deb 27 February 1900 vol 79 c1206
MR. PATRICK O'BRIEN

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War whether the King's County Militia, now mustered at Birr, have been ordered to leave Ireland on Friday next; and, if so, what is their destination; whether the men have been asked to volunteer for service at the front; if so, was the question put to them individually or m masse, and what time was allowed to them to consider their replies; whether he can say what is the full strength of this corps; and how many, if any, of them have volunteered for the front.

MR. WYNDHAM

The battalion is not at Birr, but at Woolwich, and is going to South Africa. Their volunteering for that service was in accordance with the usual procedure which has been explained more than once to the House. The full strength of the corps is 520 all ranks, and of these 518 volunteered.
