HC Deb 07 December 1900 vol 88 cc205-6
COLONEL NOLAN

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade if his attention has been drawn to the habit of re-booking goods, particularly those of small weight, on or between the railway systems of Ireland, and if he could issue regulations which would limit the powers of the railway companies to charge for this re-booking.

The PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Mr. G. W. BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

My attention has not been directed to this matter, and I am not aware of the precise point of hardship upon which the hon. and gallant Gentleman desires the intervention of the Board of Trade. It is clear, however, that the Department has no power to issue regulations limiting the powers of railway companies to charge for re-booking.
