HC Deb 07 December 1900 vol 88 c205
CAPTAIN NORTON (Newington, W.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps, if any, have been taken towards raising the pay of the members of the Metropolitan Police force, seeing that some time has already elapsed since the members of the City Police force received a substantial increase of pay.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. RITCHIE,) Croydon

I must deprecate the comparison suggested in the hon. and gallant Gentleman's question, but I may say that the matter of the emoluments of the Metropolitan Police was under the consideration of my predecessor when he left office, and is now receiving my attention.
