HC Deb 19 May 1899 vol 71 cc1031-2
MR. M'GHEE (Louth, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether his attention has been called to the resolution unanimously adopted to the Louth County Council on the 13th instant, declaring the financial proposals of the Irish Agriculture and Industries Bill to be entirely inadequate for the accomplishment of the objects in view; whether he is aware that this declaration fairly express the views of all classes in Ireland upon the subject: and whether he will have the matter reconsidered during the Whitsuntide recess, with the view of having the Bill amended in this respect.

THE CHIEF SECRETARY FOR IRELAND (Mr. G. W. BALFOUR,) Leeds, Central

The answer to the first paragraph is in the affirmative. I have no knowledge on the subject of the second paragraph. The financial provisions of the Bill were maturely considered before its introduction, and I can hold out no hope in the direction suggested in the third paragraph.
