HC Deb 20 March 1899 vol 68 c1314
MR. WANKLYN (Bradford, Central)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for War when it is proposed to issue lighter and more modern guns to the Volunteer Battalions of position now armed with 40-pound rifled breech-loading guns manufactured 35 years ago, and weighing with carriage and packed limber 4½ tons?

MR. POWELL WILLIAMS

The Volunteer batteries are allocated to defensive positions, and it is not possible at present to make any change in the armament.
