HC Deb 20 March 1899 vol 68 cc1314-5
MR. KILBRIDE (Galway, N.)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether any statutory provision exists making the conjunction of the offices of inspector of the poor and county councillor illegal; and, if not, will the Local Government Board, cither by rule or legislation, make the tenure of these two offices by one gentleman illegal?

THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. A. GRAHAM MURRAY,) Buteshire

There is no statutory provision making the conjunction of the offices of inspector of poor and county councillor illegal. The Local Government Board for Scotland have more than once expressed the opinion that 6uch a conjunction of offices is inexpedient, and should occasion arise, they are prepared to consider whether a rule on the subject should be made.
