HC Deb 20 March 1899 vol 68 c1314
MR. CARVELL WILLIAMS (Notts, Mansfield)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has seen a published statement by the Rev. J. Stratton to the effect that, during a recent hunt of the Queen's Buckhounds, the stag, after injuring itself by jumping into a pigstye, was, though wounded and bleeding, again hunted; and then, on taking refuge in a farmyard, was once more, and in an exhausted condition, hunted for 10 miles; and whether steps can be taken to prevent tame animals being subjected to such treatment?

MR. COLLINGS

The Secretary of State has seen a newspaper paragraph containing statements made by the Rev. J. Stratton to the effect suggested. On inquiry into the matter it appears that there is no ground for the allegation that the stag was wounded as suggested; in fact, when it was finally taken, the stag was uninjured in any way.
