HC Deb 16 March 1899 vol 68 cc955-6
MR. MACALEESE (Monaghan, N.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if his attention has been called to a desperate attempt made to wreck the 6.50 passenger train from Belfast to Bankbridge, at a point some yards from Lambeg Station, by placing a sleeper across the line; and have the police succeeded in finding any clue to the perpetrators of this crime?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I am informed that on the 5th instant the engine of the passenger train referred to came in contact with a sleeper placed on the rails, but that beyond slight injury to the protecting guards of the engine no damage was done to the train or the line. The police have not yet found a clue to the perpetrators of the crime.
