HC Deb 09 February 1899 vol 66 c319
CAPTAIN DONELAN

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland whether he is aware that Queenstown has recently been invaded by a detachment of street preachers, much to the annoyance of the inhabitants, both Roman Catholic and Protestant; and whether steps will be taken to put a stop to this practice?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I am aware that members of a religious Mission have recently visited Queenstown for the purpose of holding outdoor services there. The Executive Government have no power to act in the manner suggested in the second paragraph.

CAPTAIN DONEAN

Is the right honourable Gentleman aware that the practice is considered a public nuisance by the Irish police?

MR. SPEAKER

Order, order.
