HC Deb 24 May 1897 vol 49 c1137
MR. J. P. FARRELL (Cavan, W.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether he can now state if there is any intention on the part of the Government to redress the grievances under which work-mistresses in National Schools in Ireland labour?

MR. GERALD BALFOUR

I have already more than once stated that certain proposals had been made in relation to the remuneration of workmistresses, but that the Treasury, having given these representations their best consideration, were unable to sanction the proposals. I am afraid I have no further information to give the hon. Member.
