HC Deb 17 May 1897 vol 49 cc631-2
MR. ALBERT SPICER (Monmouth Boroughs)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury, in view of the strongly expressed opinion of some of Her Majesty's inspectors in recent Reports in favour of raising the leaving age in elementary schools from 11 to 12, could he hold out any hope of passing through Parliament this Session a single Clause Bill to effect the proposed change?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY

I am not in a position to hold out any hope to the hon. Gentleman that this question will be dealt with in the course of this Session.
