HC Deb 14 August 1896 vol 44 c835
MR. HERBERT ROBERTS

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he can inform the House whether any steps have been taken by the Commissioners of Woods and Forests with regard to the afforestation of Crown lands in North Wales; and, whether the Commissioners have reported favourably as to the suitability of any districts for the purpose, and the possibility of further developing the Crown lands in question?

MR. HANBURY

said that he had really little to add to the statement he had made when the Vote was under discussion. The difficulty was that the Crown held only a small amount of absolutely freehold land in Wales. The bulk of its property there was subject to commoners' rights, and it was very difficult to obtain the commoners' consent to planting. The Commissioners of Woods were, however, trying what could be done.
