HC Deb 14 August 1896 vol 44 c835
MR. HERBERT ROBERTS (Denbighshire, W.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can give the House any further information as to the position of matters in Crete; and whether, in view of the grave issues involved, the Government will undertake to issue at an early date the papers and correspondence relating to the disturbances and massacres in the island?

THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. GEORGE CURZON,) Lancashire, Southport

replied that he did not know that he had anything to add as regards the general situation to what he stated the other day and to what appeared from day to day in the public Press, which appeared to be very well informed. Papers respecting Crete would be laid on the Table during the Recess, at the earliest moment consistent with the public interest.

MR. T. M. HEALY

asked if the public Press were better informed than the Government, especially as regards the roasting of a priest?

MR. CURZON

No, Sir; I do not think that is the case.
