MR.MACDONA (Southwark, Rotherhithe)

I beg to ask the President of the Local Government Board if he is aware that the Bermondsey Vestry has, without having given notice as to the purpose for which their meeting was called, illegally voted £15 of the ratepayers' money towards the expenses of a mass meeting to be held in Trafalgar Square on Sunday next, to protest against the House of Lords?

THE PRESIDENT OF THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. H. H. FOWLR,) Wolverhampton, E.

I have no information with regard to the proposed expenditure of the Bermondsey Vestry beyond that which has been furnished to me by the hon. Member. The Local Government Board have no jurisdiction whatever with regard to the expenditure of the Vestry.
