HC Deb 15 February 1894 vol 21 c450
MR. HOGAN (Tipperary, Mid)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the attention of Her Majesty's Government has been drawn to the Report of the Select Committee appointed by the Legislative Council of New South Wales to inquire into the case of the Costa Rica Packet; whether Her Majesty's Government have observed that the Select Committee have reported strongly in favour of the prompt recognition of the claims to compensation submitted to the Government of the Hague on behalf of the captain, the owners, and the crew; and whether, having regard to the additional and weighty evidence appended to the Report of the Select Committee, and to the recommendations of the Committee founded upon that evidence, Her Majesty's Government will re-consider their attitude in the matter, and not limit the claims for compensation upon the Government of the Hague to that arising out of the captain's unwarrantable arrest and detention?

*THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Sir E. GREY,) Northumberland, Berwick

The Report of the Select Committee is now under consideration, and has been referred for the opinion of the Law Officers.
