HC Deb 12 May 1890 vol 344 c692
MR. LYELL (Orkney and Shetland)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he is aware that the telegraph cables between Mossbank and Ulsta, and between Yell and Uist, in Shetland, have both been broken for some time, thereby causingmuch inconvenience; and whether he will have these cables repaired without delay, as the fishermen in the North Isles are now placed at great disadvantage, and owing to the spring fishing having begun, it is specially important that these cables should be in working order as soon as possible?

*MR. RAIKES

The cable ship of the Post Office has had to go into dock for certain necessary repairs, but I trust she will be able to proceed to the Shetlands next week. No time shall be lost in restoring telegraphic communication between the islands mentioned by the hon. Member.
