HC Deb 29 November 1984 vol 68 cc568-9W
26. Rev. Martin Smyth

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much money will be released for patient and client care by the implementation of the new proposals for management and financial control in the Health and Social Services.

Mr. Chris Patten

Health and Social Services boards are currently required to realise annually efficiency savings of 0.5 per cent. of revenue budgets, or around £2.4 million from measures designed to improve management and financial control. In addition, the Department of Health and Social Services and boards are pursuing various initiatives designed to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness, but the expected benefits may not be capable of reliable measurement in money terms.
