HL Deb 14 October 1981 vol 424 c431WA
Lord Inglewood

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are satisfied that the information obtained as a result of requiring woodland owners to complete form PW5 when agreeing a new plan of operations with the Forestry Commission is justified in the light of the large amount of detailed work involved.

The Earl of Mansfield

Yes. Form PW5 has served as the basic area and progress record of work specified in the plans of operations required under the Forestry Commission's dedication scheme. The information it has provided has helped to facilitate the forward planning of the forestry industry's harvesting and marketing strategy, and at present is making an essential contribution to the Forestry Commission's new national census of woodlands which will be completed in 1982.

Form PW5 is not used under the new forestry grant scheme introduced on 1st October 1981. The Forestry Commission will be discontinuing its use under the dedication scheme and introducing a simplified plan of operations for all those plans which are due for renewal on or after 30th September 1982.
