HC Deb 04 July 1980 vol 987 cc745-6W
Mr. Eldon Griffiths

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if tenants seeking to purchase their council homes are entitled to buy the whole of their existing gardens.

Mr. Stanley

Under chapter I of the Housing Bill, most tenants of local authorities will be given the right to buy. The right to buy extends to the dwelling- house which the tenant occupies, and the Bill in clause 49(2), defines "dwelling-house" so as to include any land which is let together with the dwelling-house unless it is agricultural land exceeding two acres.
