HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc245-6W
Mr. Knox

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many students attending university were receiving Government grants in the year 1973–74.

Mr. Gerry Fowler

The number of students at universities in Great Britain receiving awards from my Department, the Scottish Education Department and the Research Councils in 1972–73 was 46,724. In addition 151,723 such students were in receipt of awards from local education authorities. Numbers for 1973–74 are not yet available. I have no information about awards made by other Government Departments and nationalised industries.
