HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 c245W
Mr. Miscampbell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what are the sums allocated for minor works in the building years 1971–72, 1972–73, 1973–74 and 1974–75 for the former county borough area of Blackpool.

Mr. Armstrong

The minor works allocations issued to the former county borough of Blackpool for 1971–72 and 1972–73 were £87,000 for each year at 1973 prices. £92,000 was allocated for 1973–74 at the same price levels but that year's programme was interrupted on 8th October 1973 by Circular 12/73. Subsequently the borough was allocated £56,000 for the period 1st January 1974 to 30th June 1974. The area covered by the former county borough now forms part of the new Lancashire local authority area and, as such, does not receive a separate allocation for 1974–75.

Mr. Miscampbell

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the per capita allocation of money for minor works in the building year 1974–75 in the counties of Lancashire, Cheshire, Yorkshire, Westmorland and Kent.

Mr. Armstrong

Minor works resources are not allocated on a per capita basis. In allocating the resources available for minor works in 1974–75 account was taken of the needs both of those authorities whose school populations were expected still to be increasing rapidly in 1975 and of those with large numbers of small, old primary schools. The effects of local government reorganisation were also taken into account. Allocations for the areas in question are:

Lancashire £900,000
Kent £1,960,000
Cumbria £560,000
North Yorkshire £775,000
Humberside £992,000
Cheshire £980,000
