Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many times the Gardiner Committee has met; how many witnesses it has examined; and what organisations have so far submitted evidence to it.

Mr. Orme

The committee under the chairmanship of Lord Gardiner has met three times: twice for one-day sittings in London and once for a two-day meeting in Northern Ireland.

The following have presented written and oral evidence to the Committee:

The Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland.

The Director of Public Posecutions (Northern Ireland).

The GOC Armed Forces Northern Ireland.

The Chief Constable of the Royal Ulster Constabulary.

The following have submitted written evidence:

Protestant and Catholic Encounter (PACE).
