HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc265-6W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what help is available at the present time to help such bodies as Rabbit Eradication Societies and other societies concerned with pest and vermin control; and whether he is satisfied with the present provisions.

Mr. Bishop

No financial help is given to rabbit clearance societies, as we are adhering to the principle that responsibility for control of rabbits should remain with the occupiers of the land concerned. However, grants are available to fox destruction societies in certain parts of England and Wales, and to one society for controlling coypu in East Anglia, because of the special problems associated with control of these two species. In addition our advisory and scientific services give advice on new techniques of pest control. I am satisfied that these provisions are adequate.
