HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 c266W
Mr. Luce

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food when he will decide whether further restrictions are necessary on beam trawlings following the recent meeting of the North-East Atlantic Fisheries Commission.

Mr. Wall

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will now make a statement on his policy with regard to beam trawling.

Mr. Bishop

Following the recent meeting of the North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission, a proposal by the chairman of the commission for international conservation measures for soles and plaice will be circulated shortly to member Governments. Further consideration of beam trawling restrictions must wait until we know whether this proposal meets our requirements and can be agreed by other nations involved.
