HC Deb 27 March 1947 vol 435 c228W
92. Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has met a deputation from the Rugby League; and if it is his intention to allow mid-week matches to be played commencing at 6 p.m. and later.

Mr. Ede

The Rugby League were represented at the meeting which I had on 11th March, but I did not think it necessary to trouble the league to send a deputation to London. In reply to their representations I have told the league that the Government would not wish to raise objection to mid-week matches in cup and league competitions or matches which are annual local events provided that they are not likely to attract as spectators members of the public whose normal half-holiday is on Saturday or who would normally be employed in production at the hour of the match.
