HC Deb 29 April 2003 vol 404 c268 7.30 pm
Mr. Parmjit Dhanda (Gloucester)

I am delighted to present a petition calling for the Government to continue their support for British Energy, a key local employer in my constituency with more than 1,000 employees. The petition has been signed by 3,739 of my constituents. That support has to date included a loan of up to £450 million to the company, a loan not supported by every political party.

The petition states:

The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to continue her support for British Energy in the interests of security of supply, cost of electricity, to help reduce the effect of climate change and to avoid job losses and the knock-on impact on the local community.

And the petitioners remain, etc.

To lie upon the Table.
