I rise to present a petition on behalf of the Railway Development Society, signed by no fewer than 18,753 members of the public, against the privatisation of British Rail. The petitioners believe that, far from solving British Rail's problems, privatisation will add to them, and that the railway industry needs investment, not dismemberment. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your honourable House: Will abandon the ill-conceived British Rail privatisation proposals and embark urgently upon a properly funded investment programme.
