§ Q5. Sir John StokesTo ask the Prime Minister if she will list her official engagements for Thursday 19 April.
§ The Prime MinisterI refer my hon. Friend to the reply that I gave some moments ago.
§ Sir John StokesIs my right hon. Friend aware that today is Primrose day, the anniversary of the death of Benjamin Disraeli, that great Conservative statesman? Does she recollect that he used to say that one of the principal aims of the Tory party was to improve the condition of the people? Is not that precisely what my right hon. Friend and the Government are doing?
§ The Prime MinisterYes, Mr. Speaker. I am grateful to my hon. Friend. In terms of net take-home pay, for every £3 that the average family had under Labour, it has £4 under the Conservatives. Britain has a higher rate of employment and a far better Health Service and environment than ever before. That would have suited Disraeli and I am glad to pay tribute to him on Primrose day.
