HC Deb 17 February 1989 vol 147 c618
Mr. Robert Rhodes James (Cambridge)

I beg to ask leave to present a petition, signed by more than 40,000 Cambridge constituents and others, vigorously opposing the proposed closure of the Cambridge university veterinary school. It concludes: Wherefore, your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House will oppose the recommended closure of the school conveyed to the University Grants Committee by the sub-committee chaired by Sir Ralph Riley. And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, etc.

Although the petition refers to the Cambridge school, the one in Glasgow is also under threat of closure. We also deplore that proposal. I am pleased to say that my petition has also been signed by the hon. Member for Strathkelvin and Bearsden (Mr. Galbraith) in whose constituency the Glasgow school resides.

To lie upon the Table.
