HC Deb 17 June 1988 vol 135 c747
Mr. Michael Jopling (Westmorland and Lonsdale)

I have spoken in the House before about the threat that hangs over four secondary schools in my constituency. I have here a petition concerning one. It says: To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled. The Humble Petition of the Governors of Cartmel Priory Church of England Special Agreement Comprehensive School of Cartmel in the County of Cumbria, Sheweth That Cumbria County Council have produced options under a review of Secondary Education in Cumbria that include the closure of our school. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House will ensure that Cartmel Priory Church of England Special Agreement Comprehensive School will not be closed but will be retained into the twenty first century for the secondary education of all children of the Cartmel Peninsula in the County of Cumbria. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray &c. It is signed by the governors of that school, and I hope that the House and the Government will take note of their views and ensure that this fine school is not closed.

To lie upon the Table.
